Gold and silver prices hit new highs despite minor Friday movements

Gold prices in Kolkata fell slightly by Rs 350, while silver surged Rs 3,400 per kg amid geopolitical tensions, rupee weakness, and market uncertainty.

Gold and silver prices have not seen major changes in the past two days. However, due to continuous increases over the past few weeks, both precious metals' prices are sitting at their peaks. Market experts report that this surge in both metals' prices is due to geopolitical instability in various parts of the world, decline in rupee value, and uncertainty in the stock market.

Friday’s movement in gold and silver prices

However, gold prices did not change much on Friday. On the other hand, silver prices increased slightly.

On Friday in Kolkata's market, the price of 24-carat pure gold per 10 grams decreased by only 350 rupees. The price of 22-carat gold per 10 grams in Kolkata's market also decreased by 350 rupees. Silver prices per kilogram increased by 3,400 rupees.

According to WBBMJA, gold prices in Kolkata's market on Friday:

Pure gold bar (24-carat): 1,41,800 rupees (per 10 grams)

Pure gold bar (retail): 1,42,500 rupees (per 10 grams)

Hallmark jewellery gold (22-carat): 1,35,450 rupees (per 10 grams)

Silver (retail): 2,83,450 rupees (per kilogram)

Actual purchasing price may differ

Regular buyers won't be able to buy gold at these rates when you go to the market. It will cost somewhat more than these rates. This is because GST and jewellery-making charges will be added to these rates. While GST is fixed at 3 per cent, these charges may vary from shop to shop.
