Gold jumps to Rs 1,650, silver hits record high as prices surge in Kolkata

Gold and silver prices continued their sharp rally in early 2026, with silver hitting record highs and gold jumping over ₹1,600 in just two days in the Kolkata market.

Like 2025, volatility in gold and silver prices continues in 2026 as well in the new year. Gold and silver prices had started rising afresh from the end of last week. This trend has continued since the beginning of this week. Gold prices have increased significantly in the last two days. A new record has been set due to a massive increase in silver prices as well. New records have been set in silver prices in both the international market and the country's multi commodity exchange.

In the last two days, the price of 24-carat gold per 10 grams has increased by 1,650 rupees in Kolkata's market. The price of 22-carat jewelry gold per 10 grams has increased by 1,600 rupees. Silver prices in Kolkata's market have increased much more than gold prices. The price of silver per kilogram has increased by 20,450 rupees.

Gold rates in Kolkata market on Wednesday: (excluding taxes)

Pure gold bar (24-carat): 1 lakh 42 thousand 150 rupees (per 10 grams)

Pure gold bar (retail): 1 lakh 42 thousand 900 rupees (per 10 grams)

Hallmarked jewelry gold (22-carat): 1 lakh 35 thousand 800 rupees (per 10 grams)

Silver (retail): 2 lakh 78 thousand 550 rupees (per kilogram)

You will not be able to buy gold at these rates if you go to the market. It will cost somewhat more than these rates. Because GST and jewelry making charges will be added to these rates. Although GST is fixed at 3 percent, these charges may vary from store to store.
