Recent social media posts claimed that newly released Jeffrey Epstein files link Ellen DeGeneres to cannibalism. The allegations surfaced on X, formerly Twitter, alleging connections between DeGeneres and criminal acts involving children, but lack any verified evidence.
Viral posts on X claiming that newly released Jeffrey Epstein files “expose” former television host Ellen DeGeneres as a cannibal are false. The allegations began circulating widely on February 14, asserting that documents released by the US Department of Justice tied DeGeneres to criminal acts involving children. Within days, the posts had garnered millions of views.
A post on X by a user claimed, "The Epstein files expose Ellen DeGeneres as Hollywood's "most prolific cannibal." She ate children's flesh (sic)."
However, a review of the Justice Department’s Epstein Library found no evidence connecting DeGeneres to Epstein’s crimes or to cannibalism. Although some documents are not text-searchable, available records showed no correspondence from, to or about DeGeneres indicating wrongdoing.

Origin of the allegation
According to Politico Fact, the claim appears to have originated from The People’s Voice, which published an article and video on February 11, citing an unnamed “inside source.” The video featured what was described as audio from a “whistleblower” making graphic and unverified allegations about DeGeneres.
PolitiFact also reported that four analysts examined the audio clip and concluded it was likely generated using artificial intelligence. VS Subrahmanian, a computer science professor at Northwestern University, and Marco Postiglione, a postdoctoral researcher working with him, analysed the recording with 83 deepfake detection algorithms. Sixty-three of those tools suggested the clip was more likely fake than authentic, they said, as per the report.
The People’s Voice article did not cite any material from the Epstein files linking DeGeneres to Epstein. Additionally, a list compiled by New York Magazine’s Intelligencer of prominent individuals associated with Epstein through documents such as address books and flight logs does not include DeGeneres.

What the Justice Department released
The US Department of Justice stated it has published all materials required under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. In a letter to members of Congress, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche confirmed the completion of a comprehensive review and the release of all records in the department’s possession related to Jeffrey Epstein. The department posted approximately 3 million pages of documents, 180,000 images and 2,000 videos.
The release, which followed a missed legislative deadline signed by President Donald Trump, includes records from Epstein’s imprisonment, a psychological report, details surrounding his 2019 death, investigative files on Ghislaine Maxwell, and emails involving figures such as Trump, Elon Musk, and ex-Prince Andrew. Epstein was convicted in Florida in 2008 for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old girl and died in custody in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
