A late-night police check-in led to a major seizure in Birbhum as officers from the Suri police station stopped a pickup van near Purandarpur Behira More, uncovering a huge quantity of contraband.
As many as 24 cases of banned cough syrup were recovered from the vehicle. The driver has been detained on suspicion of being involved in the illegal transport. Police are now probing where the consignment came from and where it was headed.

According to sources, the vehicle was allegedly transporting the banned cough syrup from Bolpur towards Sainthia. Acting on a tip-off, police set up checkpoints along the Suri Bolpur road. During the operation, officers intercepted the pickup van in the Purandarpur area and recovered the illegal consignment.
Police probe smuggling network
Police have stated that it is not yet clear who else may be involved in the smuggling operation. An investigation has been initiated by the Suri police station, and the detained driver is being interrogated to gather further information.
Earlier Bolpur cough syrup seizure
Earlier this month, on the 3rd, police recovered several thousand bottles of banned cough syrup from the Udayan Palli area of Bolpur. One person was arrested in connection with that case.
Following consecutive recoveries of banned cough syrup in the district, police surveillance and checkpoint operations have been intensified to curb illegal trafficking.
