A threat to repeat history

According to sources, the email warned that Chief Minister Mann would meet the same fate as former Chief Minister Beant Singh. The message allegedly stated that only Mann’s dead body would come out of the hospital.

Beant Singh was assassinated in August 1995 in a bomb attack. Former Punjab police officer Dilawar Singh detonated explosives strapped to his body near the Chief Minister, killing him along with sixteen others.

Khalistan National Army claim and police response

Punjab Police sources said the email was sent in the name of the so-called Khalistan National Army. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh stated that the authorities are not taking any chances.

Security has been tightened around the hospital and the 16 schools mentioned in the email. Bomb disposal squads and police teams are conducting thorough searches. ICSE and CBSE Class X board examinations began on Tuesday, prompting the administration to ensure that students do not face disruption. A high alert has been declared across Mohali.
