The main character in the movie is "impossible to catch." But in reality, that's not impossible. Delhi Police practically achieved the impossible. In the popular Bollywood movie 'Special 26', Akshay Kumar's team (character name Ajay Singh) managed to fool CBI officer Wasim Khan. Inspired by the movie, the Delhi Police had to conduct a breathless operation to catch a gang of criminals. This operation continued for nearly 72 hours. After chasing for 1200 km, five criminals were finally caught in the Delhi Police's net. The arrested are named Rakesh Sharma alias Kesha (41), Shaminder Pal Singh alias Sunny (43), Sandeep (30), Lovepreet Singh alias Kaka (30) and the mastermind of the operation, Parvinder (42). Among them, Parvinder himself is a government employee.
The robbery was carried out exactly like the plot of the 'Special 26' movie. The five criminals raided a jewelry manufacturing factory in Delhi's Karol Bagh. One of them was disguised as a police officer, while the others entered the factory posing as income tax department officials. A fake 'raid' continued for several hours at that factory.
How do they execute the plan?
The entire plan was made long ago. First, Parvinder and Sandeep created the blueprint for looting the jewelry factory. Later, three more people were added to this team. On November 27, five people went to Delhi in three cars. Shaminder changed his clothes and wore police uniform. After that, the five raided the factory. Upon entering the factory, they first took away all employees' phones. Several employees were asked some staged questions. Within a few hours, they looted about one kilogram of gold and fled. Before leaving the factory, they removed the DVR of the factory's CCTV system. A complaint was filed at Prasad Nagar police station immediately after the robbery incident.
Police investigation began after that. Police scanned footage from more than 250 CCTV cameras around Dev Nagar, Tikona Park, BLK Hospital, Rajendra Place and Karol Bagh Metro Station. In various camera grids, police repeatedly spotted three cars - an Urban Cruiser, a Brezza and a Swift Dzire. Then they began chasing the criminals for nearly 72 hours straight. By tracking the cars, Sandeep was caught first. From him, police got leads about the other accomplices. Police chased the criminals across Rohtak, Hansi, Hisar and Delhi. The remaining accused were arrested within the next 48 hours.
Police said several others are involved in this robbery. Search is ongoing to find them. From the arrested, 435.03 grams of stolen gold, ₹3.97 lakh cash, and three cars used in the operation have been seized.
