Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the evolving situation and assured the state of the Centre’s complete support for relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
PM Modi assures full support
Following the conversation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Prime Minister expressed concern over the widespread devastation caused by the floods and reiterated that the Central government would extend every possible assistance to the state.

Over seven lakh people affected
The latest assessment shows that more than 7 lakh residents have been affected across multiple districts, with floodwaters inundating villages, damaging homes and disrupting transport and communication.
While the floodwaters have begun to recede in certain regions, several areas remain submerged, leaving thousands dependent on relief camps and emergency supplies. Authorities continue to provide food, drinking water, medical assistance and temporary shelter to displaced residents.
Rescue and relief operations continue
Rescue agencies, including the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), remain engaged in evacuation and relief operations.
The Indian Air Force has intensified targeted airdrops of food packets and essential supplies to marooned communities, while rescue teams continue evacuating stranded residents from inaccessible locations.
Central team begins damage assessment
An inter-ministerial central team has also reached Assam to assess the damage caused by the floods. The team’s findings will help determine the scale of financial assistance required for relief and reconstruction efforts.
