Heavy rain is set to continue across parts of West Bengal on Sunday, with Kolkata and several districts in south Bengal likely to receive intense spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the sky will remain mostly cloudy through the day, while heavy rainfall is expected in several districts.
The current weather is being influenced by an active monsoon trough over the region. In addition, a low-pressure area persists over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh, keeping conditions favourable for widespread rainfall across the state.

Kolkata is expected to witness intermittent cloud cover and brief sunny intervals during the day. According to the IMD, the city will remain mostly cloudy, with heavy rain likely at times. Gusty winds may also accompany the showers.

On Sunday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 26.5 degrees Celsius, which is 2.0 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature stood at 29.6 degrees Celsius, 3.0 degrees below normal.

Heavy rain warning for several south Bengal districts
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across districts in south Bengal over the next 24 hours.
A heavy rain warning has been issued for:
East Midnapore
West Midnapore
South 24 Parganas
North 24 Parganas
Jhargram
Paschim Bardhaman
Purulia
Bankura
These districts may also experience gusty winds during periods of rainfall.

The weather office said there is no significant change expected in the overall weather pattern across south Bengal for now.
Coastal districts under special alert
The IMD has also issued a special alert for the coastal districts as rough sea conditions are expected to continue.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until Monday due to the prevailing weather conditions and turbulent sea state.

Rain forecast for north Bengal
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely in all districts of north Bengal on Sunday.

Heavy rainfall may occur in parts of Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong. The weather office has also indicated that rainfall activity across north Bengal could increase further from next week.
