Kisan Diwas or National Farmers Day is celebrated every year on 23 December by people all over India. The day honours farmers of the country, who are considered as 'annadataa' or the providers of food and recognise their importance in the sustenance of India's economy, growth, and food security.

National Farmers Day gives a signal to remember the problems of the farming community: fair pricing of the produce, sustainable agriculture, and climate change effects. It underlines the role of government schemes like subsidies, crop insurance, and agricultural loans for farmers in developing resilience and growth.

The Government of India officially celebrated 23 December as National Farmers Day in the year 2001, to recognise the great legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh and the indispensable services farmers offer to keep food systems and economies afloat.

Last March, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Bharat Ratna on Chaudhary Charan Singh posthumously. Kisan Diwas is not a mere formality of celebration; it's a day of contemplation on farmers, who work selflessly with great contributions, amidst challenges, and their development needs that are unending.
