How many days will banks remain closed in January 2026?

Banks in West Bengal will be closed for multiple occasions in January 2026, resulting in 10 holidays in the month, including long stretches around New Year, Vivekananda Jayanti, Netaji's birth anniversary, and Republic Day.

Banks will have several days off at the beginning of the new year. The RBI has published the bank holiday list for 2026. Banks in West Bengal will have a total of 10 days off in January. This calculation excludes the second and fourth Saturdays.

Bank holidays in January 2026

Government and private banks will have multiple days off in the first month of the new year. There will be holidays for various occasions, including January 1 or the English New Year, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, Makar Sankranti, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary, Republic Day, and others.

On which days will banks be closed in West Bengal?

January 1 is the English New Year. Banks will be closed on January 12 for Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. The day before, January 11, is Sunday, and January 10 is the second Saturday of the month. This means banks will be closed for three consecutive days that week.

On January 23, banks would remain shut for Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary and Saraswati Puja. January 24 will be the fourth Saturday, and January 25 will be a Sunday.

January 26 is Republic Day, and banks will be closed across the country. As a result, banks will have 4 consecutive days off that week. In January, including the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and other holidays, banks will have a total of 10 days off.
