Aarogya Setu 2.0 is being rolled out as the centrepiece of a broader government push to build a more connected digital healthcare system, with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda scheduled to unveil the upgraded platform and allied initiatives at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on June 29.
The revamp takes the original Aarogya Setu app, launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, and repositions it as a wider health gateway that can help citizens manage records, access services and move more easily through India’s digital health ecosystem.

Explaining the broader digital health overhaul
The Financial Express report said the new platform is intended to reduce healthcare costs and paperwork by making medical services more convenient for users and more efficient for hospitals, insurers and other stakeholders.
The system will bring together health records, insurance-related services and hospital access features under one umbrella, while also supporting a more standardised and interoperable digital framework.
The initiative is expected to improve service delivery by enabling smoother access to medical information, better coordination across providers and a shift toward paperless health services.

New features for patients
On the citizen side, Aarogya Setu 2.0 will function as a personal health record application that allows users to create and manage their Ayushman Bharat Health Account, store and share digital medical records, and access AI-powered health insights.
The upgraded app is also set to include medication reminders, wearable-device integration, and the ability to manage both personal and family health records. Users will be able to complete outpatient registrations and hospital payments through QR-based “scan and register” and “scan and pay” options, while beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY will be able to access hospital search, treatment history, medication history, policy details, and eligibility information in one place.
The Indian practitioner also described the move as a shift from a pandemic-era public health tool to a broader digital health platform.
Claims, standards and the wider ecosystem
A key part of the upgrade is the National Health Claims Exchange, or NHCX, which is designed to standardise health insurance claims between hospitals and insurers, speed up settlement and reduce errors that add to costs.
New health data standards and digital tools for providers are being introduced to strengthen interoperability across hospitals, insurers and state systems. Alongside Aarogya Setu 2.0, the government is also launching Ayushman Sarathi, a WhatsApp-based chatbot for PM-JAY services; the Unified Health Interface, or UHI, to connect citizens with providers; and e-Sushrut Clinic, a plug-and-play clinic management system for healthcare providers.
Supporting infrastructure such as the Drug Registry, Common LOINC Codes for India and the Bharat Health Terminology Service is also part of the package, with officials aiming to improve data quality, reduce manual effort and make health information easier to exchange.
