Food items are perishable. They have expiry dates. Once that expiry date passes, the food is no longer fit for consumption. Again, with raw vegetables and fruits, you can tell by looking whether they have started rotting or not. But there are some foods that never expire. Even their nutritional value doesn't change. You can eat them year after year.

Honey

Honey has no expiry date like other foods. You can eat it at any time of the year, with any food. Just make sure the honey is pure. It should not contain water or pieces of other food. For this reason, always use a clean spoon to scoop honey.

Salt

No food tastes good without salt. And salt never expires. Whether it's regular salt or Himalayan pink salt, you can eat any salt for years. However, always keep salt in an airtight container. Otherwise, the salt may dissolve and turn into water.

Coffee

You can still drink coffee that was bought 3 years ago. But the coffee should not contain preservatives or chemicals. Also, coffee must be stored in an airtight container. Generally, coffee can be consumed even after the expiry date has passed. But it should be good quality coffee. If there's an expiry date written on the packet, then it's better to avoid that coffee.

Lentils

You can store any type of lentils or pulses for years. If needed, you can also keep them with dried neem leaves. This will also reduce the risk of insects. Lentils never expire.

Sugar

Like salt, sugar also doesn't expire. Bacteria don't grow quickly in sugar. But sugar must be stored properly. If ants start moving around in the sugar, or if the sugar starts melting, then it's no longer fit for consumption.
