Sipping steaming coffee from a cup at a cafe on a winter evening doesn't feel bad at all. But during the Christmas atmosphere, the city's cafes are bustling. There's no room to squeeze in there. Why endure so much hassle for a cup of hot cappuccino or latte? You can celebrate Christmas Eve right at home. Along with it, you can have a cappuccino or a latte in hand just like at a cafe. But there is a difference between regular coffee and cappuccino or latte. Learn about that first.

Whatever type of coffee it may be, its main ingredient is the same. There's nothing separate to say about that. However, there is one thing 'common' between cappuccino and latte. Both types of coffee use milk. But the real twist is the quantity. It's important to know how much coffee goes into a cappuccino and how much milk goes into a latte.

The name 'latte' originated in Italy. Its meaning is milk coffee. Just by hearing it, you can guess that this coffee has more milk. In traditional latte coffee, the ratio of espresso and milk should be 1:3. Some people prefer to keep more milk in their coffee. In that case, it can be 1:4 as well. If you want to add foam on top, you can do that too. But not very thick, its layer should be thin.

On the other hand, cappuccino is comparatively thick and dense. Cappuccino has the perfect balance of espresso, milk and foam. 1/3 espresso, 1/3 milk and 1/3 thick foam, only when these three ingredients are mixed will you get the cafe-like taste of cappuccino. However, the type of foam used on the top layer of a cappuccino is not like latte. It's much thicker and denser than that. So it can float on the coffee cup like cotton clouds.

If you prefer to drink creamy, smooth, somewhat sweeter beverages, then a latte is better. This coffee also comes in much larger quantities. So you can sip from a latte cup on winter evenings while chatting. Again, if someone likes the combination of strong coffee flavour and thick foam, then they can choose a cappuccino.
