If you’ve decided to visit the mountains, there’s no debate about that. But where will you go? You’ve already called all the familiar places and everything is fully booked. So naturally, you turn to Instagram Reels for ideas. While searching, you come across Rangbull, a small village nestled among tea gardens on the hills. Peaceful, quiet surroundings. Unknown wildflowers blooming along winding trails. And of course, tea gardens and the majestic Kanchenjunga.
You can reach Rangbull by taking the winding road past Ghum–Sonada–Tung.

What to see?
There is a special charm in glancing out of the homestay window every now and then to look for Kanchenjunga. Time passes just watching the play of clouds, mist and sunlight. The next morning, wake up early to catch the sunrise. If the weather is clear, you can imprint the moment when the first rays fall on Kanchenjunga onto your heart.
Tiger Hill is not far from Rangbull, if you pre-book a car, you can visit there too.
As the day progresses, sip hot tea and stroll around the tea garden. After breakfast, walk along the forest trail to reach Rainbow Waterfalls. The sunset from the Rangbull valley is equally beautiful—you may choose to witness that too.
How to reach?
Take a train from Sealdah to New Jalpaiguri. You can also travel by bus or car from Kolkata. If flying, reach Bagdogra Airport and then take a car to Rangbull Tea Estate.
Where to stay?
There are homestays available in Rangbull. If booked in advance, you won’t face any issues. If you don’t find accommodation during peak season, you can stay a little further away in Lamahatta or Takdah.
The approximate cost for stay and meals together is around ₹1500 per person per day.

When to visit?
Avoid the monsoon, but the mountains are safe to visit at any other time. If you can tolerate the cold of December–January, you’ll enjoy the trip immensely. During that time, night temperatures remain between 1–3°C and daytime temperatures between 6–7°C. If you’re travelling with elderly people or children, carry adequate warm clothing.
