On the other hand, its natural beauty remains unmatched, especially the serene Biharinath Hill. Beyond folk culture and local deities, this place offers pure tranquillity. Biharinath is the highest hill in Bankura district, about 451 metres (1,480 ft) tall, and part of the Eastern Ghats. Archaeologists consider Biharinath Dham extremely significant. At the foot of the hill stands the famous Biharinath Temple. According to legend, the Shiva linga was discovered by a king in a dream and Biharinath is believed to be one of Shiva’s names.

From the hilltop, the panoramic view of Bankura’s forests and small villages is breathtaking, it’s hard to look away. Pair that with fresh date palm juice on winter mornings and it becomes an unforgettable experience.

Nearby attractions include Gar Panchakot, Joychandi Hill, Panchet Dam, Susunia Hill, Kalyaneshwari Temple, and Maithon Dam. You can also visit the shrines of two folk deities in the mysterious villages of Bhutaburi and Ghaghraburi.

Biharinath changes colour with the seasons

February–March: vibrant red-orange Palash flowers paint the hillsides.

Monsoon: lush green forest cover.

Winter: rustling dry leaves, fog, and a calm, crisp atmosphere.

At the base of Biharinath lies the tribal village of Paharbera. The mud houses here are decorated with intricate alpana artwork — a vibrant expression of local folk art and culture.

You’ll also find adventure here, rock climbing and trekking. Biharinath is perfect for first-time trekkers: not too challenging, yet full of natural beauty.
