The Food Scene at the 2026 Coachella Festival has stirred some strong feelings, with many attendees wondering if it is getting too pricey to eat while at the event. Social media posts indicate that the cost of one meal during the California music festival may come close to ₹8,000.
According to multiple reports, the food at the festival has become more luxurious, comprising gourmet food, international cuisine, and celebrity chefs.

Gourmet menus, premium pricing
From wagyu cheesesteaks and truffle-loaded fries to birria tacos and influencer-friendly poke bowls, Coachella’s “Central Market” and pop-up stalls are packed with visually striking, upscale food options.
While individual items may not seem excessive at first glance, costs add up quickly. A burrito can cost around $23 (₹1,900), loaded fries roughly $26–$28 (₹2,200), and beverages like coffee or lemonade range between $13 and $17. A small pizza can go up to $34 (₹2,800).
A typical meal comprising a main dish, side, and drinks can easily total between $80 and $120 (₹6,500 to ₹10,000), pushing the average spend close to ₹8,000.
Why prices are so high
The captive audience theory has been highlighted by many industry insiders as a major contributing factor. When visitors are on the large festival premises, they have few options, enabling the vendors to charge higher prices for their products.
Moreover, it is claimed that vendors must pay large entrance fees or split earnings with the organisers, resulting in higher menu prices. The nature of Coachella as an upscale cultural experience incorporating music, fashion, and social media has also led to its food being considered an important aspect of the festival.

Mixed reactions from attendees
The prices have generated controversy online, with some people considering the prices high, while others perceive it as an integral part of Coachella. In addition to meals, other factors like rental lockers and mobile phone chargers have further raised questions regarding increased costs.
Although criticised, long lines in front of the food vendors indicate high demand for the products. The primary attraction of the meal for many is not merely the meal, but its exclusiveness.
