If crowded hill stations aren’t your idea of a summer escape, Turturi might be exactly what you’re looking for. Tucked away in Alipurduar district near the Bhutan border, this quiet village sits at the edge of West Bengal, surrounded by forests, rivers and an almost untouched natural calm.
Also known as Turturi Khanda, the village lies close to the Buxa forest range and tea gardens, offering a peaceful alternative to the usual tourist hotspots. The Raidak river flows alongside, adding to the landscape’s charm.

With summer holidays around the corner, this lesser-known destination offers a break from the heat and noise of South Bengal. The nearby Buxa Tiger Reserve brings the forest alive—bird calls fill the air through the day, while at night, the sounds of insects and distant wildlife take over. It’s a place where silence feels deeper and time slows down.

Main attraction of Turturi
The main attraction of this region is Kalapahar. Very close to Turturi is Bhutanghat. Standing at that Bhutanghat view point, you can see the beauty of Kalapahar. Though the main part of the hill is in Bhutan. Another one is at Bhutanghat. The play of colors on black stones seems to have doubled the beauty of this region. The Raidak river flows alongside. Scattered over it are stones from Kalapahar. Occasionally, elephants and various other animals can be seen along this riverbank.

How to reach Bhutanghat from Turturi?
From Turturi to Bhutanghat is barely 5 kilometers. But it's better to go by bike on that stretch of road. A deserted rocky road with dense forests on both sides. It's better not to travel alone on this road. Even if you're thinking of hiking, it's better to go in groups. You can also reach Bhutanghat via Chengmari and Kumargram. In that case, it will take about an hour.

How to go to Turturi and where to stay?
The distance from Alipurduar Junction to Turturi is about 35 kilometers. You can hire a car from the junction and reach Turturi. You'll find homestays here for accommodation.
