Vijay’s much-awaited final film Jana Nayagan has run into trouble ahead of its theatrical release, with reports suggesting a significant financial setback following an online leak.

According to various reports from Track Tollywood, there appears to have been a loss of about ₹70 crores after the cancellation of its agreement with Prime Video to stream the movie on their platform for ₹120 crores. The producers of the movie, KVN Productions, are reported to have tried negotiating with other streaming sites after the termination of the deal with Prime Video. However, the new deals seem to come in at much lesser amounts, reportedly around ₹50 crores.

Leak sparks legal action, arrests made

The film was leaked online on April 9, triggering immediate legal action from the production house. A public notice was issued warning against the circulation of pirated content, including clips and full versions of the film.

Several arrests have been made in connection with the case, including a freelance editor identified as Uma Shankar. Investigators believe he accessed the film’s footage without authorisation, assembled it into a complete version and circulated it, leading to its spread across piracy networks.

The accused has been booked under multiple provisions of the IT Act, Copyright Act and the Cinematography Act. His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Madras High Court.

Release plans resurface amid delays

Despite the setback, discussions around the film’s release have regained momentum. Originally slated for January 2026, Jana Nayagan was delayed due to objections raised during the censor certification process, particularly concerning its political content.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, the film is now likely to hit theatres around May 8, following the announcement of Tamil Nadu election results.

The film, also expected to release in Hindi as Jan Neta, is being positioned as Vijay’s swansong, adding to the anticipation surrounding its eventual release.
