India A will travel to Sri Lanka later this month for a two-match red-ball series, with wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel appointed captain of the side. The tour, scheduled from June 25 to July 5 in Galle, offers several young players an opportunity to impress in challenging overseas conditions.

The selection committee has picked a balanced 14-member squad featuring a mix of experienced domestic performers and emerging talents. Devdutt Padikkal has been named vice-captain, adding leadership support to a side packed with players aiming to push for national selection.

Auqib Nabi earns his first India A selection

One of the standout inclusions in the squad is Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Auqib Nabi, who has received his maiden India A call-up. The pace-bowling all-rounder has been rewarded for a strong domestic season, where he consistently delivered with both bat and ball.

Nabi's performances played a key role for Jammu and Kashmir and caught the attention of the selectors, making him one of the fresh faces in the touring party. The Sri Lanka tour will provide him with an opportunity to test himself against quality opposition and strengthen his case for higher honours.

Strong squad features prospects

The batting unit includes several players already on the national radar, such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan and N Jagadeesan. Young talents Aman Mokhade and Shaik Rasheed have also earned places in the squad after impressive domestic performances.

India A's pace attack will be led by bowlers including Yash Thakur, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar and Auqib Nabi, while the spin department features Zeeshan Ansari and Saransh Jain.

For captain Dhruv Jurel, the tour represents another important step in his development as a leader and red-ball cricketer. Having already impressed with India and India A in recent seasons, he will now have the responsibility of guiding a talented group through a challenging assignment.

The series is expected to serve as an important platform for identifying future Test prospects, with strong performances likely to put players firmly in contention for senior national team opportunities.
