Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain on Friday night, US Central Command said, in the latest flare-up between Tehran and Washington.
The US military said six of the missiles were intercepted and a seventh failed to reach its target, while Kuwait’s military said it was intercepting incoming missiles and drones. Bahrain activated air raid sirens and urged residents to move to the nearest safe location and follow official instructions.

A salvo across the Gulf
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard said it had targeted the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait, which hosts US forces, and the US Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain, according to state-run IRNA.
Iran said it had hit US bases in both countries with ballistic missiles, though the US military said no harm to US personnel was reported.
The exchange came after US forces shot down four Iranian drones headed toward the Strait of Hormuz and struck Iranian surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. US Central Command said the drones “posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.”

A most inconvenient evening for air travel
The missile launch also affected aviation. Both Iran and Bahrain suspended flights at their airports, while Bahrain and Kuwait were seen activating air defenses in response to the attack.
Explosions were reported near the airport in Kuwait as the air defense systems intercepted missiles. The earlier attack on Kuwait had already caused severe damage to Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport, injured several people, and forced authorities to divert flights before Kuwait Airways later resumed services from Terminal 4.

Calm waters prove fleeting in the Gulf
The renewed strikes added pressure to an already fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
Reuters said the latest exchanges came as the two sides remained in largely indirect negotiations over an interim deal, while Kuwait’s foreign ministry described the Iranian attack as a “blatant act of aggression” that threatened citizens, residents, and regional security.
As the standoff widened, the risks extended beyond military targets to commercial aviation, maritime traffic, and broader Gulf stability.
