Shubman Gill’s rough patch in international cricket continues as he got out on a ball from Ngidi after scoring 4 runs in the first match of the T20 series against South Africa. The Indian T20I vice-captain had made a comeback in the international side almost a month later, as he sustained a neck injury in the first test match against South Africa at Eden Gardens.
Surya Kumar Yadav also departed from the crease after scoring 12 runs. The bad patch of both frontmen of Indian T20Is is raising concerns. Surya Kumar Yadav, in the pre-match press conference, confirmed that Shubman Gill will continue as opener, as he played in the position before Sanju Samson. He also said that apart from the openers, the other batters have to be very flexible.
Rough patch of Shubman Gill in T20Is
Shubman Gill, in his last 10 innings in T20Is only made a total of 221 runs and has only two 40+ scores in his bag. In the last 10 T20Is, he also did not manage to make a fifty, and his highest score is only 47 runs, which came against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Gill’s average performance has raised questions about the selection as Sanju, who was in his form of life as an opener, had to warm the bench.
Captain Surya Kumar Yadav also departed early and scored only 12 runs.
