India-Bangladesh relations had deteriorated sharply over the past two months, from Bangladesh not allowing Mustafizur Rahman to participate in the IPL to boycotting the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India. The situation had pushed sporting and diplomatic ties to a low point. However, Bangladesh has now indicated a possible reset.

Newly appointed Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Aminul Haque has stated that maintaining friendly relations with India is Bangladesh’s objective.

The IPL broadcast in Bangladesh had been suspended indefinitely in protest after Mustafizur was not allowed to play. Multiple reports now suggest that the suspension may soon be lifted.

Earlier, interim government chief Muhammad Yunus had decided not to send Bangladesh’s national team to India for the World Cup, citing security concerns. Since then, bilateral relations have remained strained. Aminul Haque has now signalled efforts to normalise ties, mentioning that he met the Indian Deputy High Commissioner soon after assuming office. With this political shift, speculation is growing that the ban on IPL telecast in Bangladesh could be revoked in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the future of Mustafizur Rahman remains uncertain. Kolkata Knight Riders had signed the Bangladeshi pacer for ₹9.20 crore at the auction to bolster their pace attack. However, following a directive from the BCCI, KKR had to drop him from the squad.

With reports of improving relations and possible lifting of the broadcast ban, discussions have resurfaced around Mustafizur’s potential return to the IPL. As of now, neither the Bangladesh authorities nor the BCCI have issued any official statement. Cricket fans are closely watching how the situation unfolds.
