India is going through a difficult stint in Test cricket. The Asian giants have lost two test series at home, one against South Africa and another against New Zealand, last year. India had been a dominant side at home, under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Recent performances of the red ball cricket have not been up to the mark for India.

Important home series losses

The New Zealand home series whitewash had cost the Indians a well-settled place in the World Test Championship Final, 2025. The home series loss to South Africa may also translate to the same result. The upcoming test series will be very crucial for the Men in Blue for the best results in the World Test Championships. India’s batting order and team selection have been the talk of the country.

The team that once dominated the likes of Australia and England are now getting dominated in their own backyard.

What did Harbhajan Singh say?

Harbhajan Singh mentioned, while speaking to ANI, that the Indian head coach position comes with a lot of responsibilities. He mentioned that in India, when the team performs well, everyone stays quiet, but when the results are bad, criticism follows the coach.

“It is not easy to become the coach of India. To be a coach, you have to travel with the team for a whole year and keep yourself involved in the game. You have to become more engaged because there are multiple team selections, and you also need to focus on match results,” the World Cup winner said.

“Everyone needs to be patient. If you feel you need to split the coaching, such as adopting a policy of one white ball and one red ball, then there is no need to do so for now,” said Harbhajan. "But over time, if needed, you should definitely do it. There is nothing wrong with that.”

Harbhajan Singh also added that it is not Gautam Gambhir who goes out to play for India. When it was Gautam’s time, he played very well for the country. He asked the people of the country to be patient, and if they feel that responsibilities for the red and the white ball cricket need to be split, there is no need for such a thing to happen now.
