Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar continues its strong run at the box office, with viewers praising both its scale and performances. While Ranveer Singh headlines the film as Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, it is Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal of Rehman Dakait that has drawn consistent attention from audiences.
Set largely in Pakistan, Dhurandhar presents Rehman Dakait as a powerful figure operating out of Lyari, Karachi. However, one of the film’s most striking locations which is Dakait’s sprawling bungalow, was not filmed across the border. Instead, the sequences were shot in Punjab, at a heritage property in Amritsar.

Lyari’s haveli is actually Amritsar’s Lal Kothi
The mansion shown as Rehman Dakait’s residence is Lal Kothi, a lesser-known historic haveli in Amritsar. Film enthusiast Jatin Mithrani shared visuals of the property on Instagram on January 6, captioning the post, “Turns out Lyari isn’t that far.”
The haveli’s caretaker, Deepak Yadav, confirmed the filming details in an interview with TrueScoop. “Many films have been shot here. I remember Sadiyaan with Rishi Kapoor and Rekha. Last year, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna and Ranveer Singh came here for a shoot. Sunny Deol and his son Karan Deol have also visited for filming,” he said. Yadav added that the property is managed by a Trust and is not privately owned.
A 19th-century heritage structure
Details about Lal Kothi were previously shared by historian and author Peter Bance in an Instagram post dated April 2, 2023. According to Bance, the property was built around 1876 by an industrialist during the colonial period.

Architecturally, the haveli reflects a mix of Italian, French and colonial influences. Its interiors feature European marble flooring, carved wooden staircases, marble fountains, open fireplaces and high ceilings. Bance noted that the property is currently owned by an ashram.
The location has increasingly become a draw for filmmakers seeking grand period-style settings without leaving India.
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar remains one of the biggest Hindi film successes of the year, and anticipation is already building for its sequel, scheduled for release in March 2026.
