A mysterious death of a person in the Subhashganj area of Raiganj police station on Thursday has caused a stir.

The deceased has been identified as Bablu Pal (65). His body was recovered hanging from a tree at a stone's throw distance from his home. However, the exact cause of his death is still unknown.

Raiganj police have already started investigating the incident. The deceased's family claims that he had been suffering from mental depression for a long time due to his name not being on the voter list. The family alleges that this may have led him to choose the path of suicide.

According to family sources, Bablu was called for an SIR hearing on January 6 this year. He had also appeared at the hearing. But after returning from there, Bablu's anxiety increased severalfold. Then on Thursday morning, locals spotted his hanging body on a mango tree just a hundred meters away from his house.

They informed the police. Police arrived and rescued Bablu, taking him to the local hospital. There, doctors declared him dead.

The deceased's wife, Noni Bala Pal said, "He had been in panic about SIR for several days. On Thursday morning, he went out to relieve himself. After that, he never returned home."

The deceased's brother, Ratan Pal said, "Recently, my brother had gone to the SIR hearing. All the documents were submitted. But even after that, he was suffering from depression. My brother was the sole earner of the family. He has blamed the Election Commission for this incident."

Police have already recovered Bablu's body and sent it to Raiganj Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem. Police believe that the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the post-mortem report is received. Additionally, it is being investigated whether this is merely a suicide or if there are other reasons behind it. Earlier, deaths due to SIR panic have occurred in multiple districts of this state. This time, Raiganj's name has been added to that list.
