Mohun Bagan Super Giant may have secured three points in their opening ISL fixture, but head coach Sergio Lobera knows some areas need urgent attention. Despite the positive result against Kerala Blasters at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan, the 2–0 scoreline does not fully reflect the gaps in performance.

Captain Subhasish Bose, goal-scorer Jamie MacLaren and Lobera himself stressed that the opening win was crucial, and the team is expected to look more settled ahead of their next match on February 23 against Chennaiyin FC in Kolkata.

Chennaiyin FC, under Clifford Miranda, will arrive after facing Mumbai City FC and poses a far tougher challenge than Kerala. With experienced domestic names like Pritam Kotal, Mandar Rao Desai, Jitendra Singh and Imran Khan, alongside seasoned foreigners such as Rafael Crivellaro Noguera, Elsinho and Eduardo Kau, they bring both depth and familiarity with Indian conditions.

Before that encounter, Lobera must address three key issues.

Lobera has three concerns ahead of the Chennaiyin clash

First, Mehtab’s defensive lapses remain a concern- a costly error against Kerala could have resulted in a goal if not for Vishal Kaith’s sharp save.

Second, Dimitri, operating as the playmaker, struggles to sustain control beyond the 60-minute mark, allowing opponents to dominate possession late in games.

Finally, MacLaren is often left isolated up front, limiting his impact and reducing the conversion of created chances. Tightening these areas will be crucial if Mohun Bagan is to maintain momentum in the campaign.
