Swiss boxer Benjamin Johnson has died at the age of 18 after being trapped in a fire at a nightclub in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, while attempting to rescue his friends. The incident occurred on January 1, and his death was later confirmed by the Swiss Boxing Federation.
The fire broke out at the nightclub during New Year celebrations, killing 40 people and injuring 119 others. Many of the victims were attending a party to welcome the New Year when the blaze spread rapidly through the venue.

According to reports, Johnson initially managed to escape the nightclub. However, he returned after seeing one of his friends trapped in the fire. While trying to pull his friend away from the flames, Johnson fell into the fire and suffered fatal injuries.
Due to delays in identifying victims, news of Johnson’s death emerged several days later. Confirming his passing, the Swiss Boxing Federation described him as a rising talent and praised his actions.
In a statement, the federation said Johnson died while trying to help a friend and described him as someone who always put others before himself. The federation added that his actions reflected his character both inside and outside the ring.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the fire.
Earlier, 17-year-old golfer Emanuel Galeppini also died in the same incident. Galeppini held dual citizenship of Switzerland and Dubai. French footballer Tahirs Dos Santos was injured while attempting to rescue his girlfriend, Coline, and has been transferred to Germany for treatment.
