Olympian shooter Sift Kaur Samra is set to fly to Doha after winning two medals at the Khelo India University Games held in Rajasthan.
At the Jagatpura Shooting Range, the 24-year-old shooter from Punjab won a silver medal in the individual 50m rifle three positions event and a bronze medal in the team event, representing Guru Nanak Dev University. Sift participated in the Paris Olympics last year but was unsuccessful. Instead of being disheartened, she has now set her sights on the 2028 Olympics. To achieve that goal, she is competing in almost all major international tournaments. Sift, who won gold in the individual category and silver in the team event at the Hangzhou Asian Games, currently holds the world record in her event.

After her success at Khelo India, Sift told SAI Media in an interview: “This year, I have participated in three World Cups — winning two individual medals and narrowly missing out on one. I have also won an individual gold medal at the Asian Championships. Currently, I am focused on the World Cup final in Doha, which is scheduled to take place later this year.”
She also won gold at the Asia Championship in Kazakhstan this August. Sift was slightly disappointed that shooting was not included in the Commonwealth Games. However, India will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, where shooting will surely be included. In her words: “Although it is still far away, I am excited thinking about the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.”
