In India, while discussions about Messi are ongoing, the Indian squash team created history at the same time. Team India won the squash World Cup for the first time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team on this success.
On Sunday, November 14, India defeated Hong Kong 3-0 in Chennai and won the World Cup. Through this victory, India secured its place on the squash map. Squash is not a very popular sport in this country. Therefore, this World Cup is expected to encourage the new generation to play squash. Earlier, India had won bronze in squash in 2023.

Congratulating the team, PM Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Congratulations to the Indian Squash Team for creating history and winning their first-ever World Cup title at SDAT Squash World Cup 2025! Joshna Chinnappa, Abhay Singh, Velavan Senthil Kumar and Anahat Singh have displayed tremendous dedication and determination."
He added, "Their success has made the entire nation proud. This win will also boost the popularity of squash among our youth."
India performed consistently well in the squash World Cup. They reached the final and won without losing a single match. In the group stage, India started their journey by defeating Switzerland and Brazil 4-0. Then in the quarter-final, they defeated South Africa. They beat Egypt 3-0 in both the quarter-final and semi-final to reach the final.

On Sunday, India's Joshna Chinnappa started the country's journey by defeating Li Ka Yi 3-1 (7-3, 2-7, 7-5, 7-1). Then, Asian Games medallist Abhay Singh defeated Alex Lau. He beat Alex Lau in just 19 minutes.
The finishing touch was provided by 17-year-old Anahat Singh. She defeated Tomato Ho. With the first three winning, national champion Velavan Senthilkumar did not have to play at the end.
