Storage problems begin as soon as smartphones get a bit old. Intense deliberation starts about what to keep on the phone and what not to keep. And storage runs low when trying to store favorite photos or videos on the phone. At this time, we forget an important matter. That is updating the smartphone's operating software (OS). But this can cause major damage to the phone and compromise security as well. India's cyber security agency CERT-In has issued a warning about this very issue. They have announced that those who have Android smartphones should quickly install the latest security update.

What is CERT-In's message about Android phones:

The notification issued by CERT-In states that the security patch level that came out in January should be updated quickly. CERT-In has reported that a major flaw has been detected in the Google Android operating system. Through this gap, targeted attacks can be carried out on specific phones. If this happens, the device's memory could be corrupted, and the system could crash. If corporate Android devices are attacked in this way, criminals could also cause incidents like data breaches.

CERT-In reports that there will be opportunities to attack specific individuals' phones or corporate Android phones or Android devices if the latest update is not installed. Problems were found in the Dolby Digital Plus Unified Decoder. This tool is used to process media on Android smartphones.

While acknowledging the problem, Dolby has stated that it's not as dangerous as it's been claimed. At most, the media player might crash or automatically restart. But taking control of the entire system won't be possible. Google had provided a security update after announcing the problem. The January 5 bulletin stated that this problem first came to light in October 2025. That's why a new security patch has been introduced.
