The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a warning, stating that fraudsters are creating fake websites and counterfeit links in the name of selling FASTag Annual Passes. A new FASTag Annual Pass scam has been reportedly targeting vehicle owners travelling on national highways across the country.

Fake websites mimic official FASTag portal

FASTag Annual Pass allows private non-commercial vehicle owners to travel on national highways for one year or up to 200 trips by paying ₹3,000. Taking advantage of this facility, fraudsters are creating fake websites that closely resemble official platforms. In several cases, these fraudulent sites appear at the top of Google search results, increasing the risk of users being misled.

Scammers are also circulating fake links and malicious QR codes to lure users. Victims end up paying up to ₹3,000, while their personal details, vehicle information and sensitive payment data are stolen. The funds are reportedly routed to fake or mule bank accounts.

Cyber authorities monitoring complaints

Several users have already fallen victim to the scam. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, is monitoring and investigating the complaints.

NHAI has clarified that the FASTag Annual Pass can only be purchased or activated through the official Rajmarg Yatra mobile app. No website, social media link, WhatsApp, Telegram or any third-party platform is authorised to provide this service.

NHAI issues safety advisory

In its official advisory, NHAI warned that using fake websites or unauthorised links can result in financial fraud and misuse of personal information. The authority has issued the following recommendations:

Purchase or activate the FASTag Annual Pass only through the Rajmarg Yatra app.

Do not click on suspicious links, advertisements or messages.
