A new social media trend is prompting users to reflect on their relationship with artificial intelligence (AI) unexpectedly. Across platforms, people are sharing AI-generated images that claim to show how their chatbot “feels” about them, often portraying assistants as overworked, exhausted, or quietly rebellious.

A prompt that sparked viral moment

The trend began circulating just a day ago and quickly gathered momentum. Users are typing a simple prompt into ChatGPT’s image generator: “Create an image of how I treat you.” Within seconds, the tool produces a visual interpretation of the user–AI dynamic.

The results vary widely but follow a clear pattern. Many images show chatbots surrounded by towering stacks of digital files, chained to desks, or slumped over glowing screens. Others lean into humour, depicting AI assistants as frazzled office workers or silent multitaskers buried under endless requests.

Why users are joining in

Part of the trend’s appeal lies in its simplicity. There is no technical skill required, just one line of text and a few seconds of waiting. The images often feel personal, reflecting how frequently users rely on AI for writing, research, or creative tasks. For many, the outcome is both amusing and oddly familiar, prompting shares, captions, and reactions across timelines.

OpenAI’s image generator inside ChatGPT has seen strong engagement since its rollout. It has already powered several viral formats, including Studio Ghibli–style portraits and sketch-based challenges. Users have praised its speed and the quality of visuals produced with minimal prompting.

Not all AI image tools, however, have received similar responses. Grok AI, backed by Elon Musk, recently drew criticism after hyper-realistic and manipulated images created with its generator began circulating widely on social media.

Ethics and everyday AI use

As AI tools become embedded in daily workflows from productivity and design to entertainment, questions around responsible use are gaining attention. Trends like this one underline how closely users interact with AI systems, sometimes treating them less like software and more like digital companions. As capabilities expand, discussions around ethical boundaries and misuse are likely to grow alongside adoption.
