A video showing a group of Indian tourists raising slogans in a public place in Paris has gone viral on social media sites, prompting widespread criticism and debate about civic sense and tourist behaviour abroad.
Video from Montmartre sparks outrage
The video, which is believed to have been recorded in the Montmartre area, which is always filled with people, shows a few Indian men standing by a street performer. One of the men is seen putting his arm around the performer and shouting slogans like “Jai Maharashtra,” “Jai Shiv Sena,” and “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ki Jai.”

Soon, the rest of the men in the group also start shouting. As the chanting gets louder, the street performer looks increasingly uncomfortable. In the video, he can be seen gesturing to the group to stop several times. Several people have commented on the fact that he was trying to get them to stop, and that he was consistent in his attempts. However, the chanting continued for several more seconds.
The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @Delhiite_, who wrote, “A video from Paris shows Indian tourists with a street performer.” Soon after, the clip began attracting sharp reactions from users.
Netizens react
One user condemned the behaviour, writing, “Disgusting, these fellows should be deported and banned for life from entering the country”. Another pointed out the performer’s reaction, saying, “Bro was exactly doing the opposite to what that street performer was saying”.
A third comment reflected embarrassment over the incident, stating, “These people are an embarrassment to us wherever they go lol”.
Calls for stricter norms for tourists
The backlash also included suggestions for stricter regulations. One user wrote, “A fixed refundable fee should be taken from tourists for social discipline especially from Asian countries. Refunded once there is no incident reported to local police till they sit back in return flight to ensure behaviour as per local culture. This will stop this nonsense”.
Another user remarked on the frequency of such incidents, saying, “This has become a common habbit of people in group travelling abroad and chanting slogans in public place . which is completely unnecessary… why one have to do so?"
