Beeple has taken the internet by storm after his latest act. An uncanny group of robotic dogs has set fire to social media after their appearance at Art Basel Miami, one of the globe's largest and most sought-after art festivals. Wearing lifesize silicone replicas of the faces of billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, artist Andy Warhol and Beeple himself, the dogs were seen walking, blinking and sometimes 'pooping' NFTs. An amalgamation of fun, technology and social critique has been a major hit at the event.
Who is Beeple?
American digital artist and graphic designer Michael Winkelmann is known as 'Beeple' and is famous for his NFTs. On March 12, 2021, a collage from his NFT series "Everydays" was sold for $69 million in cryptocurrency. This collection was featured on Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection and was featured in the Paris Fashion Week at the Louvre.
"Regular Animals"
"We are not ready for the future," declares Beeple’s latest project, "Regular Animals". On the opening day of the art fair, the artist stepped inside the enclosure himself, gathering the scattered art pieces and handing them to visitors. Two of the robotic creatures are modelled after Winkelmann, complete with his signature haircut and glasses, while the others mimic figures like Elon Musk, Andy Warhol, Mark Zuckerberg, Pablo Picasso, and Jeff Bezos, CNN Style reported.
"We see the world through their eyes because they control these very powerful algorithms that decide what we see. And so we wanted to kind of play with that idea," Beeple said.
He added that individuals are "increasingly seeing the world through the eyes of AI and robotics." Beeple added, "I think that will happen more and more," reported Hindustan Times.
