A massive fire broke out at a factory located in North Kolkata near the Dum Dum Seven Tanks area. Initially, the fire originated from a factory, and then the blaze spread to another nearby factory. So far, there are no reports of casualties. The factory is located beside a slum in Mitrabagan, near Dum Dum's Chiriamore.
First, the fire started at a clothing factory. Later, the fire spread to a nearby plastic factory. By 8 PM, 13 fire engines had reached the spot. The fire department has brought the fire largely under control. However, according to the fire officials, it will take considerable time to completely extinguish the blaze.

Local residents have said they cannot figure out how the fire started. The police and fire departments have made considerable efforts. A significant portion of the fire-affected area has been brought under control. Work remains to put out the remaining fire. Local residents have demanded an investigation into how the fire started. DFO North Kolkata, T.K. Dutta, said that in the congested area, with houses all around, the fire extinguishing process has been carried out while saving the surrounding structures. So far, there are no reports of injuries.
