EC agrees to financial compensation for families of deceased BLOs, seeks detailed report by next week

The Election Commission has accepted the demand to provide financial compensation to the families of BLOs who died while on duty.

By Saturday afternoon, 99.97 percent of enumeration form distribution work was completed in the state. Form digitisation stood at 99.43 percent. The digitisation work must be completed by December 11. The state Chief Electoral Officer's office (CEO) has set a target to quickly complete work by identifying centres where digitisation work has lagged behind.

According to the CEO office sources, centres lagging in digitisation include Siliguri (98.34%), Dabgram Fulbari (97.30%), Bidhannagar (98.04%), Kasba (93.55%), Behala East (93.15%), Jadavpur (90.22%), and Metiaburuz (93.62%).

So far, the total number of "Uncollectable Forms" is 55 lakh 45 thousand 167. Among these, the number of deceased voters is 23 lakh 83 thousand 807, transferred voter forms number 1 lakh 93 thousand 676, missing voters 1,05,973, duplicate voters 1,28,994, others 45,717.

Meanwhile, multiple BLOs have died in the state. In most cases, the families of deceased BLOs have blamed work pressure.

A request was made to provide compensation to the families of the deceased. The commission has accepted this request, according to the CEO office sources. District officials in districts where BLO deaths have occurred have been asked to submit reports quickly within the next week.
