Until now, half-sleeve sweaters were enough to manage the chill, but Thursday morning brought a sharper winter bite across Kolkata. The temperature dipped into the 15-degree range as the city woke up to noticeably colder air. With northerly winds blowing unobstructed, meteorologists expect temperatures to fall even further in the coming days. There is currently no indication of rain anywhere in the state.
Similar to Thursday, fog is expected on Friday morning as well, especially across the districts of South Bengal.
Coastal areas recorded comparatively heavier fog, although visibility improved gradually as the day progressed.

On Thursday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 15.6 degrees Celsius-0.1 degrees below normal, marking the coldest day of the season so far. Earlier, on November 27, the city’s minimum temperature was 16.4 degrees Celsius. Now that the temperature has dropped to the 15-degree mark, both Bengals are set to experience a steady winter atmosphere over the next four to five days.
Could rainfall disrupt this winter spell?
The Alipore Meteorological Department has offered clarity and reassurance. According to officials, there is currently no possibility of rain in either North or South Bengal. North Bengal districts will also remain dry, with minimum temperatures likely to stay close to normal levels. The winter conditions are expected to continue without major fluctuations in temperature. While the cold will feel more prominent during the mornings and nights, the chill is likely to ease a bit during the daytime.
