Howrah Municipal Corporation authorities have stated that correction opportunities will only be available during renewal. According to the municipal corporation, this registration will play an extremely important role in preserving pets' identity, proving ownership, vaccination tracking and finding them if lost. It has been clearly stated that when a dog's license expires, the owner must renew it.

The municipal corporation has announced that logging into the online portal and filling the registration form, secure online payment and certificate download – everything can be done on the same platform. This initiative has been welcomed by dog lovers and city residents alike.

Shailesh Upadhyay, founder and trustee of Pashom Howrah Charitable Trust, says, "While other municipalities have registration arrangements for street dogs, Howrah didn't have this until now. This is undoubtedly a very good initiative by the municipality. Many people bring foreign dogs. They are kept at home and illegally bred. Then, when those dogs become sick, they are abandoned on the streets. This will reduce, and alongside that, a list of how many dogs there are will be available."

Additionally, he demands that the municipality should establish a dog sterilisation centre and a crematorium for dogs.

Howrah resident Supriya Sen says, "The initiative is very good. Often, lost dogs cannot be returned to their owners. With registration, owners can be easily found from identity cards, and it will also be convenient to track vaccination."

Another dog lover, Arijit De's statement, "The online arrangement will reduce bureaucratic hassles. However, the fee should remain affordable, and elderly people are assisted with registration."
