'True strength of Bengal lies in its women': TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee extends greetings on International Women's Day

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said respect for women is deeply rooted in Bengal's culture, praising the strength of women and highlighting Mamata Banerjee's role in advancing women's empowerment.

Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, said that respect for women is deeply rooted in Bengal's culture and is not limited to occasions like International Women's Day.

In a post on X on Sunday, the Trinamool Congress leader said the tradition of honouring women is part of Bengal's social consciousness. "In Bengal, respect for women is not symbolic, it is woven into our culture," he wrote.

Banerjee said women play a central role in shaping society and everyday life. Referring to their strength and resilience, he wrote, "Today, on International Women’s Day, I reflect on the strength, dignity and resilience of women who shape our lives. In Bengal, respect for women is not symbolic, it is woven into our culture. We worship Maa Durga as our daughter and call this land Bangla Ma".

Cultural roots of respect for women

Abhishek Banerjee also referred to the cultural and spiritual traditions of Bengal that celebrate womanhood. In his message, he highlighted the worship of the goddess Durga as a symbol of that tradition.

"We worship Maa Durga as our daughter and call this land Bangla Ma," he wrote.

According to the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, these beliefs reflect the cultural values of Bengal, where women are viewed with reverence both in religious traditions and in social life.

Reference to Mamata Banerjee's leadership

Abhishek Banerjee's post also mentioned the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal. He said the state has been led by a woman for the past fifteen years and that her leadership has highlighted the importance of determined governance.

"For fifteen years, Bengal has been led by a woman whose courage and conviction have shown the country what determined leadership looks like. Under Smt. Mamata Banerjee, women's empowerment has meant real support, opportunity and dignity for millions," he wrote.

Abhishek Banerjee concluded his message by paying tribute to the women of the state. He said their achievements and courage continue to inspire society.

"The true strength of Bengal lies in its women, whose courage and achievements inspire us to build a stronger, more just and equal society," he wrote.
