West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reportedly sent flowers and sweets to Bangladesh Prime Minister-elect Tarique Rahman after his party's win in the general elections, as per Hindustan Times.
The gifts were received by BNP Media Cell member Atiqur Rahman Ruman at Rahman's political office in Gulshan, according to state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

Earlier on Friday, Mamata Banerjee congratulated the people of Bangladesh and addressed Rahman as "Tarique Bhai" in a post on X. She also conveyed advance greetings for Ramzan.
"My hearty congratulations, shubhonandan, to all my brothers and sisters, all the people, in Bangladesh. My advance Ramazan mubarak to all of them," Banerjee wrote on X.
The Chief Minister added, "For this great victory, my congratulations to my Tarique-Bhai, his party, and all the parties. Pray, you all be well and happy."

She expressed hope that India and Bangladesh continue to share cordial ties. Her message comes at a time when relations between the two neighbours remain delicate after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted and amid recent incidents of violence against minorities in Bangladesh.
The West Bengal Chief Minister wrote on X, "Wish that our relations with Bangladesh be always cordial".

Prime Minister Modi invited for Rahman's swearing-in
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to attend Tarique Rahman's swearing-in ceremony on February 17 in Dhaka. However, he is unlikely to travel as he is expected to hold a bilateral meeting in Mumbai with French President Emmanuel Macron the same day, Hindustan Times reported.

Tarique Rahman's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a majority in the 350-member Parliament. The BNP alliance won 212 seats. An 11-party bloc led by Jamaat-e-Islami secured 77 seats and is set to sit in the opposition. Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League, which was the dominant force in Bangladesh over the last two decades, was banned by the interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus from contesting the Bangladesh general elections.
