US President Donald Trump has raised doubts about whether the United States was responsible for the deadly strike on a school in Iran's Minab, months after the attack killed scores of students and staff.

The strike, which took place on February 28 during the Iran-US conflict, led to heavy casualties at the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school. Reports at the time had linked the attack to the United States, although official investigations are still ongoing.

Speaking to reporters, Trump suggested that it may be difficult to determine who was responsible for the strike.

"I don't know that they are ever going to solve that problem in terms of whose fault was it because there were missiles flying all over the place, and it's horrible what happened…," Trump was quoted as saying by Reuters.

‘I don't think it was us’

Trump said there was no evidence that had convinced him the strike was carried out by the United States.

"I don't know that they are ever going to solve that problem," Trump said, and added, "Somebody said it was our missile, maybe it wasn't our missile but I have seen nothing to lead me to believe it was," Trump remarked, adding, "I don't think it was us."

He further said that multiple missiles had been launched during the conflict.

"But there were missiles flying all over the place and somebody said it was our missile, well maybe it wasn't our missile, but I've seen nothing to lead me to believe it was. There were plenty of missiles being flown by other people. What do you think Pete?"

Earlier remarks and ongoing investigation

Trump's latest comments come days after he described the Minab school strike as a "mistake" and said it had not been intentional.

“Nobody did that on purpose,” Trump said last week at the G7 summit in France.

He added that the incident remained under investigation. “What about the thousands of soldiers they blew up? Mistakes are made. War is nasty,” he said.

Questions remain over school strike

Iranian authorities have accused the United States and Israel of carrying out the attack, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied involvement.

Iranian officials described the strike as a “war crime” and a “deliberate attack”. The incident has drawn international attention as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding one of the deadliest episodes of the conflict.
