Asha Bhosle's last journey: Tricolour tribute, emotional scenes mark goodbye

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle, one of Indian cinema's most celebrated voices, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92. She died at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after suffering from multi-organ failure, following a chest infection and exhaustion.

Her passing has left the music fraternity and fans across the country in mourning, marking the end of an era in Indian playback singing.

Final darshan and last rites schedule

Her son Anand Bhosle shared details of the final rites. "People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am on Monday at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm at Shivaji Park," he told reporters outside the hospital, per The Indian Express.

Her mortal remains were kept at her residence in Lower Parel for final darshan, allowing family members, friends and admirers to pay tribute.

Guard of Honour and tributes pour in

The iconic singer was given a Guard of Honour in the presence of her loved ones, recognising her immense contribution to Indian music. The ceremony drew several prominent figures from politics and the film industry.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited her residence to pay his respects, joining a steady stream of mourners.

Family gathers for emotional farewell

Family members, including her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle, were present during the final moments of farewell. Emotional scenes were witnessed as relatives and close ones gathered ahead of the cremation.

The last rites are scheduled to take place at Shivaji Park crematorium at 4 pm, where she will be cremated with full state honours. Security has been tightened at the venue as several dignitaries are expected to attend.

Asha Bhosle's legacy, built over decades of music, continues to resonate with generations of listeners across the world.
