Dense fog and low visibility across large parts of North India continued to disrupt air travel on Monday, forcing airlines to cancel flights and issue advisories for passengers.

Major carriers, including IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet, warned travellers of delays, diversions and cancellations as weather conditions remained unfavourable at important airports.

IndiGo cancels over 90 flights

IndiGo cancelled more than 90 flights scheduled for Monday, according to information available on the airline’s official website. The cancellations were mainly due to forecasted bad weather at several airports, along with a few operational and airport-related restrictions.

Delhi airport was the most affected, with a large number of arrivals and departures either cancelled or disrupted. Flights connecting Delhi with cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Patna, Nagpur, Bhopal, Durgapur and Guwahati were impacted due to bad weather or its ripple effect on operations. Return flights to Delhi from these destinations were also affected.

The airline issued a weather advisory on X (formerly Twitter), warning that heavy fog over Chandigarh could further impact flight schedules. IndiGo said, “We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly.”

It also urged travellers to regularly check flight updates. “We request that you stay updated on your flight status via our website or app. Please be assured that our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide full support.”

Air India and SpiceJet issue advisories across multiple cities

Air India released a late-night advisory on Sunday, cautioning that dense fog is expected to reduce visibility across northern India, including Delhi, which may impact flights throughout its network. The airline said on X, "Our ‘FogCare’ initiative provides advance alerts to passengers on flights most likely to be affected. It offers the option for you to either reschedule your flight at no extra cost or receive a full refund."

SpiceJet also issued a broader warning, flagging possible disruptions in more than 20 cities, including Delhi, Amritsar, Jaipur, Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Patna, Guwahati, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Udaipur. “All departures/arrivals and their consequential flights might get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” the airline said.

Passengers are advised to stay updated and plan their travel accordingly as fog conditions persist.
