Global whisky brand faces setback, halts production at key plant for a year

Suntory Global Spirits will pause production for a year at Jim Beam’s main Kentucky facility as the bourbon industry navigates changing market conditions.

Production of an extremely well-known whiskey brand has been shut down. Not for a day or two, but for an entire year. This is the decision taken by Suntory Global Spirits, the producer of Jim Beam Bourbon whiskey.

The manufacturing company has announced that production will be halted for the next year at its main factory in Kentucky. Bourbon whiskey manufacturers in America are currently under pressure, with massive stockpiles on one hand and fluctuating global demand on the other. In this context, Jim Beam decided to halt production. It has been announced that the factory will be renovated during this time. The company has stated that decisions will be made based on future demand patterns. Production will continue at other locations, it has been announced.

The Jim Beam brand is owned by Japanese beverage company Suntory Global Spirits. 1,000 people work at the Kentucky factory. The company has announced that it is considering how to utilise workers during the production shutdown. According to media sources, this industry has been hit due to Trump's tariffs. In response to imposing taxes on other countries, those countries have imposed retaliatory taxes. Alcohol is on that list. On the other hand, America's trade relations with Canada have also deteriorated. Canada was one of the major buyers of American liquor. Purchases have decreased there as well. Manufacturing companies have also felt the impact of this.
