Germany arrive at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with renewed confidence after years of inconsistency on the biggest stage. Following back-to-back group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022, the four-time world champions have shown significant progress under Julian Nagelsmann, who has brought stability, energy and belief back to the national team.

A balanced squad with emerging stars

Nagelsmann has assembled a squad that combines experienced campaigners with some of Europe’s brightest young talents. Midfielder Jamal Musiala is expected to be Germany’s key attacking force after establishing himself as one of the most exciting players in world football. His creativity and ability to change games could prove crucial during the tournament.

Alongside Musiala, Joshua Kimmich remains one of the team's most influential figures. The experienced midfielder provides leadership and control, while players such as Leon Goretzka, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Jonathan Tah add quality across the pitch. Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is also set to feature, bringing a wealth of experience and tournament know-how.

Germany's squad has largely been built around a strong Bayern Munich core, giving the team familiarity and cohesion. Young prospect Lennart Karl is another player attracting attention and could make an impact if given opportunities during the competition.

Opportunity to make a statement

Germany has been drawn into a group that presents a realistic path to the knockout rounds. While they will be expected to progress, the team knows that stronger challenges will await later in the tournament.

The biggest difference compared to recent World Cup campaigns is the sense of direction surrounding the squad. Nagelsmann has restored confidence and created a more structured playing style, allowing Germany to compete with the world's leading nations once again.

Although they may not enter the tournament as overwhelming favourites, Germany possess enough talent, experience and momentum to trouble any opponent. If Musiala and the team's young stars perform at their best, the four-time champions could be serious contenders for World Cup glory in 2026.
