Concerns are growing over Delhi's pollution. In this situation, Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant sat in court wearing a mask on Tuesday. His division bench heard a case related to SIR that day. Earlier, the Chief Justice had expressed concern multiple times about Delhi's pollution. He had mentioned how he fell ill while going out for a morning walk on the capital's streets.
Due to excessive pollution, the Chief Justice had also directed to examine, whether Supreme Court hearings could be conducted entirely through virtual mode in late November. At the same time, directions were given to examine whether online teaching arrangements could be made in schools due to pollution. This had sparked various kinds of debates.
However, after the capital's air quality remained hazardous for several consecutive days, Delhi got some relief on Tuesday. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) sources, Delhi's AQI was 292 on Tuesday. Not just Delhi, but the air quality in neighbouring areas has also improved slightly. Anand Vihar recorded 319, Bawana 342, and the airport recorded an AQI of 215.
CPCB has stated that vehicle emissions are one of the main causes of Delhi's pollution. Besides this, multiple factories and construction work in the city and surrounding areas are spreading pollution in Delhi. At the same time, stubble burning has also decreased significantly in neighbouring states.
