Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday, November 25, that singer Zubeen Garg’s death was not an “accident" but a “murder". The 52-year-old singer died on September 19 while swimming in the sea in Singapore.

Sarma made this statement during the Winter Session of the Assam Assembly. The discussion began after the opposition raised an adjournment motion about Garg’s death. The Chief Minister said the case did not fall under “culpable homicide" or “criminal conspiracy" and stressed that it was a “plain murder".

It began gathering documents and testimonies on November 3 after the Assam government assigned it to examine everything related to the incident. The earlier deadline was November 21.

The commission’s job is to figure out what happened before and after Garg’s death, and check if there was any negligence, misconduct, or failure by any person or institution.

It will also look into whether there was any outside involvement, including “foul play, conspiracy, or unlawful acts", that could have influenced or been connected to the case.
