Nominations for the post will be filed on January 19. The announcement is expected to formalise a leadership transition that has been widely anticipated within the party.

The post is likely to go to Nitin Nabin, the BJP’s national working president. The 45-year-old leader from Bihar is expected to file his nomination next week and is likely to be elected unopposed, according to party insiders.

Who is Nitin Nabin?
Nabin was appointed BJP national working president on December 14 last year, a move that was seen within the organisation as signalling a generational shift. A five-time MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur constituency, he has also served twice as a minister in the state government.
He is the son of late BJP veteran and former MLA Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha and is regarded within the party as a leader closely associated with its organisational and ideological roots. He also has a background in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The expected transition mirrors an earlier precedent. Outgoing BJP president JP Nadda was first appointed national working president in June 2019 before being elected party chief in January 2020, succeeding Amit Shah.
