Mumbai's CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) supply has suffered a major blow. According to Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) sources, cracks have been detected in the CNG gas pipeline. As a result, CNG services have been temporarily suspended in multiple areas of Mumbai. This has disrupted several public transportation services, including buses, autorickshaws, and taxis.

What is the reason?

Cracks in the gas supply pipeline of GAIL (Gas Authority of India) located at the RCF (Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertiliser) campus in Mumbai. That has disrupted CNG supply in multiple areas of Mumbai. Currently, gas supply at the Wadala City Gate Station (CGS) is completely shut down.

MGL has issued a statement in this regard. The statement said, "GAIL pipeline damage inside the RCF compound has disrupted gas supply to MGL's Wadala City Gate Station."

Public transportation services, autorickshaws and taxi services disrupted

Most of Mumbai's autorickshaws and taxis (including vehicles from companies like Ola and Uber) and several buses run on CNG. The shutdown of gas supply at Wadala CGS has had a major impact on CNG stations in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

MGL has informed that in this situation, the company has prioritised gas supply through pipelines to multiple homes in Mumbai. However, MGL has not provided any information about when the gas supply will be normalised or how the crack appeared in this important pipeline.

MGL has advised customers in affected areas to use alternative fuel. They have informed that once the gas supply at Wadala CGS is normalised and the pipeline crack is repaired, the gas supply will return to normal. The company has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to customers.
