Today, on Constitution Day, PM Modi writes to citizens, asking them to place their duties at the centre of national life as India marches towards the vision of Viksit Bharat. Recalling the adoption of the Constitution on 26 November 1949, he stated that to pay tribute to this document and further strengthen public awareness of its values, the government declared the date as Constitution Day in 2015.
In an X post, PM Modi wrote, "On Constitution Day, wrote a letter to my fellow citizens in which I’ve highlighted about the greatness of our Constitution, the importance of Fundamental Duties in our lives, why we should celebrate becoming a first time voter and more…"

Constitution as a source of empowerment
The Prime Minister also underlined in his letter how the Constitution has allowed people with humble beginnings to attain positions of national prominence. He went on to describe his acts of homage-bowing at the steps of Parliament in 2014 and placing the Constitution on his forehead in 2019-as moments that reflected the deep reverence the document commands.
He added that the Constitution has given millions of citizens the opportunity to dream and the confidence to pursue those aspirations.
Honouring the makers who shaped India's guiding text
PM Modi also paid respects to members of the Constituent Assembly, remembering Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr B.R. Ambedkar and many women members who helped shape the nation's guiding text.
He also recalled the Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra held in Gujarat during the Constitution’s 60th anniversary, as well as the special parliamentary session and nationwide programmes during the 75th anniversary, which witnessed high public participation.
A year marked by historic anniversaries
The Prime Minister noted the special importance of this year's Constitution Day, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversaries of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
He said these occasions underline the centrality of duties outlined in Article 51A and referred to Mahatma Gandhi's conviction that rights emerge naturally from the performance of duties.
Looking ahead to 2047 and beyond
Emphasising that India will celebrate 100 years of independence in just over two decades and the Constitution’s centenary in 2049, PM Modi said today’s decisions will shape the lives of future generations. As the nation strives towards realising its long-term national objectives, he exhorted citizens to always keep their duties foremost.
